DAY 4:  LET’S DESIGN A POWER POINT PRESENTATION

  Objective: The students will create a Power Point Presentation.

  Time needed: 2- 40-minute sessions

  Materials: Computers

  Activity: Students will research famous Abolitionists using the Internet, or other resources. They will choose one and use the following criterion to design a Power Point Presentation to show the class. Resources for research.

v     Slides 1-5:  Brief  picture biography of the chosen Abolitionist-5W’s

v     Slide 6:  Present the strong feelings about slavery that this person possessed in order to became an Abolitionist. (You may want to use a 1st-person persuasive speech in this slide.)

v      Slide 7: Major accomplishments of this Abolitionist

v     Slide 8:  Design an Award to be presented to this person at a fictional awards ceremony. You may want to use music behind this slide.

Assessment: Students will self-assess using a checklist. At the completion of each slide each pair team will examine their work-first alone and then together. Improvements will be made to meet the criterion on the checklist before moving onto the next slide. As a whole class, students will design the checklists with the help of the teacher before they begin. They will ask themselves, ”What does a good one look like?”
